Also do TCP/IP try-at-home for Windows 7, and Mac OS/X.  Windows 10 users, this page may be helpful if you can't figure out how to get telnet to work.  Also:
  1. whatismyipaddress.com shows a less detailed map than it used to.  Also try http://www.ipfingerprints.com/ and http://addgadgets.com/ipaddress/ and see if your results are different.
  2. if you were interested in tracert (called traceroute on Mac), you might want to play around with servers around the world like w2.vatican.va (the Vatican) and sina.cn (China).  You might also want to try the visual traceroute tool at http://www.monitis.com/traceroute/
